PROFILE OF THE DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE

With the ongoing developments in the industry and business arena, a strong need was felt to produce and develop human resource that will cater to the needs of the society in general and industry in particular. With this aim the department was started in 2010 with the following vision and mission:

 

VISION: To produce comprehensively trained; socially responsible and innovative entrepreneurs to the nation.

MISSION:  To engage students in creative innovative program for intellectual enlightenment.

The department started its journey with B.Com first year in 2010. Within a short span of six years, from 2010 to 2015, it grew as a full-fledged department of the college, offering B.com to the students of the district Pulwama and Shopian.

 It has been the aim of the University of Kashmir to include applied and market oriented subjects in the curriculum. To achieve this objective, the department of commerce offers a number of market oriented subjects like Marketing Management, Financial Management, Human Resource Management, Entrepreneurship Development, etc. 

The department regularly conducts seminars and workshop for the benefit of the students. The department also organizes discussions on contemporary/burning issues to keep the students abreast with the latest happening. The Core Faculty comprises of four teachers having rich experience of research and teaching.

The college library has a rich collection of latest books. Out of the total, 416 books are for commerce students. The library has different journals and magazines pertaining to business and industry.
