Department of Sociology: At a Glance

Govt. Degree College Pulwama was established way back in 1986. The college got shifted to its present campus in 2001 and earned recognition status under 2(f) and 12(b) with the UGC in 2004. The college has an enrolment of around 5200 students providing education in 24 subjects spread over 04 programs of Science, Arts, Commerce and Computer Science.

 The college started offering Bachelor of Arts (B.A) programme to meet the higher education requirements of vast section of the population. From time to time various streams have been introduced in the college. To make the college more vibrant in higher learning, science stream was introduced in 2002.

The subject sociology was started in the year 2001 with one contractual faculty realizing the increasing role of students; the faculty strength was increased by two more contractual appointees.

The faculty members of the department, besides teaching, evaluate the performance of the students through regular internal assessment as per rules and regulations of Kashmir University.

                            Meetings conducted by the Department

The department has conducted a series of meeting in which it was thoroughly discussed how various problems faced by the students can be best addressed keeping in view the available resources. In addition the department has also taken it as a mission to provide quality education to the students in synergy with the market demand and to develop research skills.

Number of books of Sociology in College Library

The department possesses 376books out of which 71 are UGC funded and remaining 305 are state funded available in the main college library.
